Thinking of gifting your favorite grad a car for their recent educational accomplishment? As a recent high school graduate and current Vroom intern, I’ve got a pretty good idea of what young adults are looking for. Vroom asked me to pick my favorite seven cars listed right now, spanning the range from super-safe to fun and adventurous.
2013 Mini Countryman: 20,447 miles; $20,980
The MINI is the epitome of fun. It seats four comfortably, but it’s easy to park and bounce around the city. The gas mileage hits 26 miles per gallon and the interior features smartphone integrated technology. It’s a small car so it doesn’t skimp on safety.
2012 Tesla Model S: 15,587 miles; $62,980
Doesn’t everyone want a Tesla? It is an absolutely beautiful car, and revolutionary piece of technology with a 416 hp electric engine. The navigation and audio systems are top of the line, with one of the nicest center consoles I’ve seen. For me, the 89 miles-per-charge will do just fine.
2016 Ford Escape: 1,226 miles; $18,780
For a first car, I think the Ford Escape is a great choice. It’s practical, a decent crossover size, and not too expensive. The cool comes into play thanks a keyless ignition and back-up cameras. Aesthetically, the car looks classic, and the interior is beautiful.
2014 Volkswagen Jetta: 9,169 miles; $16,980
The Jetta is the perfect size for urban driving and parking at school, hitting a weekend trip, and comfortably fitting five people. The great attractive auto has cruise control, rearview cameras, and of course Volkswagen’s incredible safety ratings.
2016 Audi A4: 559 miles; $38,980
This 2016 model is beautiful. The size is exactly what I look for, nothing too big but you would never feel packed in. The grey-black exterior-interior combination is classic and timeless, making this car the perfect blend of practicality and luxury.
2015 Lexus GS: 18,287 miles; $33,480
This luxury sedan is equipped with a full HDD console with navigation, high-quality 5.1 surround sound, and rearview cameras. Every element of the interior can be adjusted to ensure the most comfortable ride for the driver. It’s another really secure option for a new driver, with state of the art safety features throughout the car.
2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata: 7,042 miles; $19,980
The list would be incomplete without a convertible. The Miata is so dynamic, especially with the bright red exterior. It’s an ideal size for parking and getting around in tighter areas. The safety features are extensive and make the idea of driving a speedy sports car more practical. It’s a perfect summer car.
